Biography

Queer Jane is a Slovak indie-pop band, influenced by psychedelia, punk, country, whatever. The group is fronted by guitarist and singer-songwriter Vladimir Nosal, who is also known for his collaboration with the legendary American neo-psychedelic band The Brian Jonestown Massacre. The rest of the line-up consists of Lukas Valter on bass and Adam Janos on drums and backing vocals.
In 2013 Queer Jane released an EP called Loveshy with the rough "guitar-bass-drums" sound capturing the energy of their live performances. On their debut LP Flowerville (2015), the band has explored new territories and the sounds of keyboards, mellotrons and analogue synthesizers have been added to their sonic palette. The songs themselves remain based on poppy melodies and rich harmonies, taking inspiration from the likes of The Beatles and The Beach Boys.

On their second album Home (2016), Queer Jane stayed true to their "songs first" attitude, but delved deeper into sonic experimentation. The lyrics have also become more serious with singer-songwriter Vladimir Nosal exploring the themes of alienation and constant search for "home", whatever that means. The band is currently working on their third album, which will be out in autumn 2019.

More

Queer Jane received international airplay, including appearances on BBC Radio. They have been mentioned NME and Allmusic articles and were called "one of the best indie bands you've never heard of". They also gained significant critical acclaim of Slovak music journalists:

"Songs that go from A to B, based on catchy melodies" (Oliver Rehák, Denník N)

"Flowerville is one of the best and most interesting Slovak debuts in the last few years... And Home is an even stronger collection of songs that still carry the 60s spirit, but go much further sonically." (Peter Bálik, .týždeň)

"A charming cocktail of music, youth, bravery and ferocity, that never gets annoying" (Marína Valentovičová, Hudba.sk)

"The dialogue of instruments lets you into the beautiful inner world of the songwriter: it's a dialogue that captures the essence of the meaning of everything, not just life, but the music itself and how to make it so it's not all vanity and emptiness... Vlado Nosal is my new Pye Hastings, a genius Slovak songwriter and space traveller." (Ben Tais Amundssen, Nový populár)
